Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has asssured Ghanaian citizens that the incumbent government is poised to mitigate and eradicate the negative effects of Covid-19 pandemic on the economy.
He urged the populace to remain calm since the Akufo-Addo-led administration is noted for fixing challenges inherited by the erstwhile Mahama administration and has a remarkable track record to prove that.
According to him, the dire effects of coronavirus would be no exception to the incumbent government.
Taking to social media, the Vice President wrote: "We are four months into our four-year mandate. The job of government is to fix problems. This is what we have been doing since 2017. The COVID-19 pandemic has slowed down the global economy and caused increases in prices of commodities such as oil, cement and iron rods as well as overall cost of shipping.
"Nevertheless, it is very important to place the performance of our government over the last four years after inheriting an economy with 'no meat on the bone' on record."
Earlier this year, some section of the general public have expressed worry over the price surge of oil and building materials such as cement and iron rods. Some building companies have attributed the price increment to the effect of the virus on the international market.
But according to Dr Bawumia, government has commenced initiatives to address the concerns raised and cushion Small and Medium Scale Enterprises against the pandemic.
"Ours is a government that listens and cares. The facts and data speak for themselves," he added.
He also listed a number of problems the Akufo-Addo government has fixed in the last four years, which included positive economic indicators, social interventions to ameliorate the suffering of the people, job creation, improved agriculture, critical infrastructure development, digitization, among others.
