The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has accused the Mahama government of prioritising political persecution over governance, insisting that its actions reflect a deliberate agenda to target opponents.
Speaking after the debate on the 2025 Budget Statement on Tuesday, 25 March, Afenyo-Markin criticised the government’s approach to law enforcement, arguing that it is motivated by vendetta rather than due process.
"All you know is persecution. Instead of focusing on the economy and the welfare of Ghanaians, you have chosen to hunt down political opponents," he stated.
He further contended that the government’s handling of legal matters against former officials is characterised by bias and a disregard for fairness.
“Justice must be pursued without malice or political interference. What we are witnessing is a clear attempt to weaponise state institutions against those who disagree with the government,” Afenyo-Markin asserted.
The Minority leader urged the government to prioritise policies that address the pressing economic challenges facing Ghanaians instead of engaging in divisive political tactics.
He warned that such an approach would only deepen the country’s political tensions and undermine democratic principles.
