Hearts of Oak legend Amankwah Mireku is calling for club defender Osei Asibey to be “sidelined” following a catalogue of costly mistakes.
The centre-back was caught in a mix-up with goalkeeper Benjamin Asare which resulted in a late goal scored by Albert Amoah to hand Kotoko victory over the Phobians in the Super Clash.
The mistake was Asibey’s third in his last three meetings with Kotoko.
The 23-year-old lost possession while attempting to evade his marker, leading to Kotoko's winning goal in the Democracy Cup.
Also in last season's second-leg encounter, his weak back-pass was intercepted by Kotoko striker Steven Mukwala, who capitalised on the error to secure all three points for the Porcupines.
“The team is losing points because of his overconfidence with the ball, which has become a feature of his game,” Mireku told Akoma Sports.
“This is the third time his errors have cost Hearts of Oak points, and just as coaches are sacked when their errors cost the team points, players who consistently cost the team points should be sidelined.
Meanwhile, head coach Aboubakar Ouattara has refused to "blame any player" for the defeat.
The Phobians now sit 7th position on the league table with 19 points and hope to return to winning ways against Berekum Chelsea in their next match.
