Former Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, has announced his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairmanship race.
Mr. Asamoah-Boateng revealed this in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show.
He said he aims to re-energise and reorganise the NPP, emphasising that the party’s chairman is the most important tool in politics.
“The chairman must bring a different ballgame. He must be able to motivate and energize so he can carry people along. I have studied, listened to, and understood the ideologies and philosophies of the party,” he stated.
Though confident in his ability to lead the NPP to victory in the 2028 election, the former Director-General of the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) says he will proceed cautiously before officially declaring his ambition.
However, he admitted to sending a subtle message calling for a new era of discipline and a more structured party.
In 2022, Asabee, as he is popularly known, was one of the key aspirants in the NPP chairmanship race.
He was confident that, among his competitors, he had the strength to ‘face’ the NDC.
However, at the end of the polls, his hope was dashed as Stephen Ayesu Ntim emerged the winner on his fifth attempt with 4,014 votes, while Asabee secured 1,010 votes.
