A Banker and Development Consultant, Sebastian Deh, has launched a bid to represent the Kpando Constituency of the Volta Region in Parliament.
He seeks to introduce and implement policies and interventions to revive, repair and restore the lost glory and prominence of the once vibrant constituency in Ghana.
“For the past few years, I have carefully weighed the challenges of Kpando. I have equally weighed carefully my skills and capabilities.
After a lot of self-examination, I am convinced that I can lead the crusade to repair, revive and restore Kpando. I have therefore filed to contest for the high office of Member of Parliament on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC),” he stated in a press release copied to Myjoyonline.com.
Mr. Deh decried the party’s performance in the 2020 parliamentary elections in a constituency where the NDC dominates, attributing the decline in total votes to a myriad of factors,“ which require immediate attention”.
He, therefore, identified himself as the most suitable candidate to re-energise the party and work towards increasing its electoral fortunes if given the nod to represent the NDC in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
He described himself as having the required professional skills needed to harness human and infrastructural development in Kpando.
He said that though the laws identify an MP primarily as a lawmaker, it takes the capability of a development-oriented law maker to design strategies, and programmes and lobby effectively to channel development and entrepreneurial opportunities into a constituency.
Mr. Deh recounted his contributions to human capacity development in the Kpando Constituency to indicate he is capable of delivering on his objectives.
“Indeed, my tenure as the Executive Director of the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) produced the biggest investment in educational systems in the Kpando Constituency since 1992. It also affected positively, many of the Kpando youth who are involved in skills development programmes.
I have been President of the Akpini Youth Congress, an assembly of sharp-witted youths, who are unbendingly determined to positively affect education in Kpando. I believe being MP can only enlarge my clout to compete for bigger things for our dear constituency,” he added.
He disclosed that he sponsored several philanthropic works across the constituency which include partnering with international development partners to construct a modern clinic at Kpando- Aziave, multi-purpose mechanized boreholes in five communities in Kpando, a modern ICT lab in Sovie Technical Institute (SOVTECH) and 6 other second cycle schools in the Volta Region.
He further listed sponsoring 90 female students to train in electronics at the Sovie Technical Institute, renovating the Kpando-Torkor passenger waiting bay, refurbishing the Kpando Dzoanti Library with computers and rehabilitating and supply of office equipment to the Akpini/Dagadu palace office secretariat.
Mr. Deh disclosed that his team had drafted a developmental oriented manifesto to be implemented on the “Repair, Revive, Restore Kpando agenda" after winning the primaries, and eventually parliamentary elections to represent the Kpando constituency in the 9th Parliament of the 4th Republic.
The drafted manifesto contains schemes to unite and strengthen the NDC to reclaim lost grounds, anchor a vibrant youth mentorship program, and promote business relationships and investments for a strong local economy.
He further enumerated job creation, with a focus on unemployed youth and women, expansion of infrastructure for accelerated development and the implementation of at least one cottage industry/project within each major catchment area in the Kpando Constituency.
A section of the constituents has identified Sebastian Deh as the “messiah to inject a new energy” towards harnessing development in the Constituency.
They believe his works over the period in the Constituency indicates that Mr. Deh being their MP, would augur well for the area; which is plagued with youth unemployment, an ailing local economy, infrastructure and logistic deficit in the health and education sectors, lack of support for the youth to access tertiary education among others.
It is their expectation that Mr. Deh’s second bid to contest the parliamentary elections on the ticket of the NDC, is successful.
