The Chief Executive Officer of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCo) Secretariat, Dr. Ibrahim Anyass, has entreated beneficiaries of the programme to desist from engaging in actions that may sabotage their chances of gaining permanent employment.
His comment is in relation to a demonstration embarked on by some of the NABCo trainees.
On Thursday morning, the aggrieved trainees hit the streets of Accra to protest what they call an undue delay in the payment of their allowances.
Commenting on the delayed payment of allowances, Dr. Ibrahim Anyass, speaking on Asempa FM told the trainees to be forbearing with government.
"Government has largely, throughout the three years kept its side of the bargain. So I will entreat the trainees who are still on the programme to bear with the processes."
The NABCo boss, therefore, advised the beneficiaries to "avoid doing and engaging in behaviours that may likely stampede their chances with the very people we negotiating to find them employment."
NABCo protest
An extension of the NABCo service period by government has not been followed with the necessary financial commitment as many of them are yet to be paid in the past six months.
According to some trainees, they have been “perishing in extreme hunger and deprivation.”
“I depend on my parents for survival; so, as a NABCo trainee, life has been very unbearable, and as you know, we have been in the corporate environment for a while.”
“Three years now, and honestly speaking, just last week some sections of trainees received September and October allowances, but they were paid selectively,” a beneficiary told JoyNews in an interview.
Meanwhile, the Minority spokesperson on Employment, Dr. Kwabena Donkor, has asked the government to pay the trainees immediately.
“We are aware of the concerns about non-payment of allowance for close to seven months, and we have articulated same at the plenary.”
