Banking consultant Dr. Richmond Atuahene has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) responsible for Ghana’s current economic challenges, arguing that the party has no moral right to criticise President John Mahama’s recent decisions regarding the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
Dr. Atuahene also dismissed calls by the Minority in Parliament for the prosecution of the acting Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiamah.
In an interview with JoyNews, he labeled their demands as mere “noise.”

The Minority has expressed strong opposition to President Mahama’s decision to discontinue criminal charges against Dr. Asiamah, questioning the rationale behind it.
Tano North MP, Dr. Gideon Boako, warned that the move could have significant economic and political repercussions for the country.
However, Dr. Atuahene countered this stance, emphasising that the current financial crisis was a direct result of the NPP’s governance.

“Let us not politicise this matter because we have been in a bad situation. Who brought us to this position? The country’s debt stood at 56 billion, and only 45 billion has been restructured. Instead of allowing the government to navigate a way forward, people are just making noise. Absolute noise.”
He further defended the President’s decision to retain Dr. Asiamah as the acting Governor of the Bank of Ghana.
“The president said, ‘I have nominated him,’ and the former governor expressed his interest in the position. Does it mean we should leave the seat vacant?”
