The Chinese Professional Football League has fined Chengdu Rongcheng FC US$70,000 over the racial abuse of Ghanaian forward Frank Acheampong.
The 32-year-old was targeted with "abusive remarks" and "discriminatory behaviour" by Chengdu Rongcheng supporters during the clash against Henan FC.
Two men were reportedly arrested shortly after the match and placed in administrative detention, which can last up to 20 days.
"The misconduct, captured on video and widely circulated on social media platforms, included 'monkey-calls' mocking the skin colour of visiting Henan FC's Ghanaian player Frank Acheampong and repeated middle-finger gestures," according to The Global Times, a Chinese state-run newspaper.
In addition to the fine, the Disciplinary Committee ordered the closure of a section of the stands for one match as part of the sanctions.
Acheampong has played 30 matches this season, scoring 14 goals and providing three assists in the Chinese Super League.
His performances have helped Henan FC sit 10th in the league standings.
