Nana Kwao Awuah II, the Chief of Sefwi Aboduam, Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area in the Western North Region, has said that having legal training as traditional leaders helps in adjudication to avoid degenerating into conflicts.
Nana Awuah II, known in private life as Mr Prince Kwabena Aduhene, is also the Prampram District Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and was recently called to the Ghana Bar.
He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that “every chief traditionally presides over a group of people, and among other duties, one is expected to adjudicate on issues.”
He added that he would combine the acquired formal legal background with the traditional knowledge to manage conflicts and related issues in his area.
The Sefwi Aboduam chief noted that he was motivated to gain legal education to use his experience as an example for the youth in his area to value formal education and encourage them to strive for academic excellence to build themselves and their careers.
“Many youths are not pursuing higher education, and that is worrying. So, if, at my age, I am still going to school, I believe I can then use myself properly to encourage them to further their education,” he added.
Nana Awuah II, who was enstooled as divisional chief of Sefwi Aboduam in 2014, started his law education at the Mountcrest University College in Accra, after which he successfully got enrolled at the Ghana School of Law and subsequently called to the bar on October 11, 2024.
