The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, has urged the public to remain vigilant against cybercrime and other criminal activities, particularly those perpetrated online and on highways.

Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, January 29, which highlighted two major success stories achieved through intelligence-led operations, the CID boss disclosed that police had arrested seven suspects in a highway robbery involving a Council of State member, as well as five others in connection with a separate robbery at Nkasem.

She used the occasion to caution the public about growing cyber-related threats and the need for caution when using digital platforms.

“We urge all and sundry to remain vigilant against cyber crimes and crimes perpetrated online. Exercise due caution on digital and social media platforms. Avoid sharing personal or financial information with unknown individuals and be wary of unsolicited messages or calls requesting sensitive details,” she said.

COP Donkor also advised motorists to stay alert at all times, especially when travelling at night or through isolated areas, with a specific warning to those involved in vehicle sales.

“Motorists, especially those involved in vehicle sales, are encouraged to stay alert at all times. Be cautious when people approach vehicle sellers with the aim of buying vehicles,” she stated.

She further urged drivers to take basic safety precautions to protect themselves and their property.

“Ensure that vehicles are properly secured, avoid picking up unknown individuals, and be cautious when stopping for distress signals that may be staged,” she added.

The CID Director-General also called on the public to adopt general safety measures in their daily routines, including remaining alert in crowded places and informing trusted persons of their movements.

“Any suspicious activity should be reported immediately to the nearest police station for assistance,” she said.

Speaking on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, COP Donkor commended officers across the country for their dedication and professionalism.
