The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has warned contractors working on government road projects to complete and hand over their ongoing projects before seeking new contracts, as government moves to curb delays and improve project delivery under the Big Push initiative.
According to the Minister, the move is aimed at ending the practice where contractors secure multiple projects but fail to complete them on schedule.
"As we have said, in the next phase of the Big Push, you cannot be sitting on some jobs and be asking for new ones," the Minister stated.
He said government is considering making the completion and handover of existing projects a key requirement before contractors can take on additional road projects.
"In fact, we are considering that before any contractor gets any major project, they must show that they have completed and handed over other projects within their portfolio," he said.
The Minister stressed that government will no longer tolerate contractors taking on several projects at the same time with little progress on each.
"No more contractors sitting on jobs and just touching here and there. From now on, all major contractors must complete and hand over major projects within their portfolio before they get another one," he added.
He noted that contractors currently executing projects have the opportunity to complete their ongoing works before seeking additional government contract.
