The 2024 flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has stated that the Court of Appeal's ruling on the ambulance procurement trial will enhance investor confidence in Ghana.
He stressed that a fair judiciary is crucial for attracting investors, as it assures them of impartial hearings in case of commercial disputes, thereby boosting their confidence in the economy.
The former president highlighted that the Court’s decision, which he had not anticipated due to the prolonged duration of the appeal, came as a pleasant surprise.
He described the ruling as a landmark judgment that underscores the importance of a reliable judicial system.
In an interview with TV3 on Tuesday, July 30, following the court's decision, Mr Mahama reiterated his commitment to fostering a judiciary that Ghanaians can trust.
He stated that a trustworthy judicial system is essential for the nation's progress and for instilling confidence among both local and international investors.
Mr Mahama expressed his readiness to contribute to the creation of a judiciary that meets the expectations of the Ghanaian people.
He believes that a credible and impartial judiciary is vital for advancing the country’s democracy and ensuring justice for all.
“I’m prepared to work with the judiciary to create the kind of judiciary we deserve. The judiciary is the last avatar in all the three arms of government when it comes to any dispute, and the judiciary creates an environment for investors to come.
“If investors believe that they can get a fair hearing in case of any commercial disputes or anything, they will come into your country. Unfortunately, the message that goes out there is that we’re able to manipulate our courts against investors, and so sometimes it sends a bad signal for investment,” he expressed.
