Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged all stakeholders, particularly the media, to play an active role in preserving the peace in Ghana before, during and after the 2024 elections.
He made this call on Thursday, November 28, during the signing of the 2024 peace pact in Accra.
Dr Bawumia emphasized the crucial role the media plays in shaping public discourse and ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
He encouraged journalists and media houses to uphold the values of impartiality, responsibility, and professionalism in their coverage of the elections.
The Vice President also extended his appeal to other stakeholders involved in the electoral process, urging political parties, security agencies, and the electorate to act in the spirit of peace and unity.
He stressed that it is the collective responsibility of all Ghanaians to ensure a peaceful conduct of the elections.
Dr Bawumia expressed confidence that Ghana would once again demonstrate its resilience as a beacon of democracy in Africa.
He assured the public that, with everyone’s commitment, the country would have a peaceful, credible, and successful election in December 2024.
“I am full of hope that all of us leaders and our followers will live up to the peace pact we’re going to sign today and I encourage the security agencies who are doing an excellent job and the media and all stakeholders to do all they can to ensure and preserve the peace," he urged.
