The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged its supporters and all Ghanaians to come out in large numbers to make a decisive statement in Saturday’s elections.
According to the party, this is the time for Ghanaians to choose a better future, following what he described as the disappointment, suffering, and economic mismanagement under the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the past eight years.
Speaking at the NDC's final rally at Zurak Park in Madina on Thursday, December 5, the General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, declared that the statement Ghanaians make on December 7 should send a clear message to the NPP and the world that enough is enough.
He stressed that the fight for victory on December 7 is not just the NDC’s fight but a collective fight for Ghana, thus the party must ensure Ghana finds hope again in Saturday’s polls.
Cautioning against complacency, Mr Kwetey warned of dire consequences if the NDC’s strongest opponent, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, wins.
“Saturday is a day where all of our ancestors will be watching to see how ready you are to fight for our country. ...Fight for Ghana, fight for the victory of this beautiful country because if we make the mistake and Bawumia wins on Saturday, this country is virtually gone,” he said.
He continued “It is a fight not for NDC, it is a fight for the very soul and survival and the future of our country.”
Mr Kwetey called on party supporters and Ghanaians not to take the election for granted, stressing that victory has not yet been achieved.
He urged every supporter to remain vigilant and committed until the last minute on election day, saying, “The people we are fighting are desperate for themselves and will do everything to stay in power.”
The NDC General Secretary reminded the crowd that power belongs to the people, and December 7 is their chance to reclaim it.
“In John Dramani Mahama, you are bringing somebody who has the humility and simplicity to work for you and ensure we restore this country again,” he said.
Mr Kwetey further explained that the election is not just about taking power from the NPP but also about resetting the NDC itself.
He said that the NDC must understand that “this is not business as usual. Ghana is not giving us an opportunity for us to come and also do the nonsense that we have seen over the last eight years.”
He added that change must begin within the NDC, expressing confidence that John Mahama would lead that charge.
