The Member of Parliament for Tano North, Dr. Gideon Boako, has appealed to the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) to take urgent action against illegal mining activities in his constituency, warning that galamsey is severely affecting the community.
Speaking in an interview on Thursday, January 8, Dr. Boako described the situation as alarming, saying it threatens both the environment and the livelihoods of residents.
“We are begging you. The people of Tano North are calling for the action of NAIMOS because galamsey is killing us. It is consuming us, and it is a worrying situation,” he stated.
He noted that illegal mining has caused extensive damage to farmlands, water sources, and local infrastructure, and cautioned that failure to act promptly could derail development efforts in the area.
Dr. Boako urged the Secretariat to intensify enforcement measures, carry out regular monitoring, and work with community leaders to eliminate illegal mining, emphasising that immediate intervention is essential for the safety, health, and prosperity of Tano North residents.
