The Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, has asserted that the will of the people will be reflected in the general elections held on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
He believes that the atmosphere at various polling stations in his kingdom reflects the sentiments of the electorate, eager for change of government.
“We think that the outcome of votes at places that we visited so far will reflect the will of the people”, he said when he toured some centers in his Kingdom after voting.
He commended the effective coordination of the voting process and collaboration among stakeholders at the various polling stations he visited.
“We're happy about the orderliness and the commitment of all participants. Electoral Commission officials, party agents. I am so happy about all of that”, he explained.
He recommended adjusting the polling station setups to better respect the voters' choices on the ballot during the voting process, suggesting that the arrangement should provide "a little secrecy but also transparency."
Togbe Afede also raised concerns about the turnout of voters in Saturday's polls, explaining that his expectations were not met.
The elections could record a little over 60% voter turnout considering the figures recorded at the end of polls.
Most of the polling stations we visited reported a turnout of just over 50%, with some electoral officers resting while awaiting the closing of polls at 5 PM. Some polling stations also had people in queues after 5 p.m. waiting to cast their ballots.
