The Energy Ministry has appointed a Corporate Communications & Brand Management Professional, Kofi Abrefa Afena as the Ministry’s new Communications Specialist.
Mr Abrefa Afena by this appointment is expected to beef up the Ministry’s Communications department and assist it in engaging with their stakeholders and partners.
Until this appointment, he worked as Communications and Media Relations Officer at the Petroleum Commission where he has over the years contributed to enhancing the organisation’s brand visibility locally and internationally as far its regulatory mandate and the promotion of Ghana’s hydrocarbon potential are concerned.
He has also written extensively to shape the upstream petroleum regulator’s image positively and maintained cordial media and stakeholder relations for same.
Mr. Abrefa Afena comes to this new role with a clear understanding of the Energy sector value chain and institutional nexus and will support Management of the Ministry to effectively engage its stakeholders.
He is expected to co-ordinate the synergy of various publics including sector agencies to well position the ministry.
As a former student leader at the University of Ghana, Legon and an aide and a speech writer for Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Mr Abrefa Afena has a firm appreciation of Ghana’s democratic and political landscape, shaping his views and communications philosophy.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Degree in Politics with Sociology from the University of Ghana and an MBA with specialty in Corporate Communications Strategy & Brand Management from the School of Economics & Management of Beihang University (BUAA), Beijing, China as a CSC-Bilateral Programme Scholar.
Additionally, he holds certificates in Strategic Political Communications, Leadership, Organisational Strategy and Event Management. Having attended a number of oil and gas conferences, locally and internationally, he is also a Member of the Institute of Public Relations (IPR), Ghana
