The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) says it is taking certain actions to ensure that the quality of services rendered by street vendors in the country is standardised.
Joyce Egyakwa-Amusah, the head of Food Safety Management, in an interview on Prime Morning on Joy Prime said this is in order to ensure food safety.
She said it is also to guarantee that customers eat hygienic foods, especially street foods, which are consumed by a large percentage of the population
According to her, the Authority has taken it upon itself to train food vendors to make sure they acquire the necessary skills to operate.
"We've been doing some training for the street food vendors. Once the vendor has the knowledge on what to do, we believe that self-regulation or self-compliance will be done” she told host Emefa Adeti.

"We're hoping to get to the point where we'll issue street food vending permits to the street food vendors so that when the consumer goes out to buy, they would see the permit.
"They will be assured of their safety as this will indicate that the street food vendor has gone through the necessary training and is handling food according to the hygienic practice based on which the FDA has issued the permit."
She added that the global Pandemic Covid-19 has hindered the FDA’s efforts to train and give permits to more vendors, however, the exercise will resume as soon as the situation becomes friendlier.
