From Vision to Impact: How Bishop Dr. Gideon Titi Ofei Is Changing Spintex Road
If you walk on Spintex Road with open eyes, you will notice something. This place is full of movement and full of life. Shops open early. Food joints sell till late. Drivers and riders are always moving people. Young men and women are hustling. Families are trying to make it.
But beyond the noise and the hustle, there is a quiet blessing that has been growing in this community. It is the blessing of impact. Real impact. Impact you can feel, not impact you only hear about.
That story is strongly connected to Bishop Dr. Gideon Titi Ofei, the Chancellor and Founder of the University of Gold Coast, and the work of the University of Gold Coast Community Impact Project.
This is a simple truth. When God lifts a man, He expects that man to lift people. And that is what we are seeing on Spintex Road.
One of the clearest ways the University of Gold Coast has helped Spintex Road is through economic empowerment.
Over 4000 students come into the Spintex Road area. That number is not small. And it means something practical.
Students buy water and drinks. They buy food. They print materials. They use transport. They buy phone credit. They buy from shops. They eat in restaurants. They support food joints. They move around with taxis, trotro, okada, and ride services.
So the university is not only teaching in classrooms. The university is also helping money to move in the community. Many small businesses are selling more because the students are around. Many workers get daily income because the university is active.
In everyday language, the university is bringing customers, and customers bring money. That is how local economies grow.
Many people want to go to school, but school fees can be heavy. Some people are gifted and brilliant, but money delays their destiny.
Through the years, Bishop Dr. Gideon Titi Ofei, through different initiatives and support systems, has provided scholarships to hundreds of residents to study at the University of Gold Coast. This includes police officers and other hardworking people in the community who simply needed a chance to rise.
In addition to that, school fees have been paid for needy but brilliant students to undertake different programmes in other universities as well.
This is not just assistance. This is destiny support. Because when a person gets education, a whole family can change. When one person rises, many people benefit.
It is like the Bible says. A good man leaves an inheritance for his children’s children. Sometimes that inheritance begins with education.
In life, two things can humble anyone. Sickness and lack.
Sometimes a simple medical bill can shake a whole household. Sometimes a petty trader has the skill and the desire, but the small capital is not there. And without small capital, even a hardworking person can remain stuck.
Through the Community Impact Project and personal support interventions, Bishop Dr. Titi Ofei has helped by funding medical bills for people who needed urgent help. He has also provided seed capital for petty traders so they can restart, expand, or stabilize their small businesses.
This kind of help does not just remove pain. It restores hope. It tells people, you matter. God has not forgotten you.
A community becomes stronger when the youth have work to do and money to earn.
Through the University of Gold Coast, young people in and around the Spintex Road community have received job opportunities and work exposure. Some are involved in administration, operations, security, facility support, student services, event support, and other campus roles.
Work gives dignity. Work builds confidence. Work reduces pressure. Work turns idle hands into productive hands.
And when young people are busy with decent work, the whole community becomes safer and better.
People see buildings and think it is just cement and paint. But every building also means jobs. It means contracts. It means artisans working. It means apprentices learning.
Through the university’s infrastructural development, many artisans and skilled workers have had opportunities, including masons, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, painters, tilers, welders, technicians, and many others.
So the university is not only giving degrees. The university is also giving work. Practical work that feeds families.
A community does not only need money. A community also needs light. People need hope. People need guidance. People need prayer. People need a word that gives them strength.
Through Pleasant Place Church, Bishop Dr. Gideon Titi Ofei has brought hope and direction to many. The church has become a place where people are encouraged, corrected, strengthened, and helped to believe again.
When people have hope, they do not give up easily. When people have direction, they do not waste their lives. When people have God, they can survive hard seasons and still stand.
The story on Spintex Road is clear. Bishop Dr. Gideon Titi Ofei has not only built an institution. He has built impact around that institution.
Over 4000 students are helping the local economy through daily spending. Hundreds have received scholarships, including residents and police officers. Needy but brilliant students have had fees paid to pursue programmes beyond the university. Medical bills have been funded. Petty traders have received seed capital. Young people have received jobs. Artisans have benefited through infrastructure works. And through Pleasant Place Church, many have found hope and direction.
This is what it means to be a blessing to your community.
And as the Scripture says, let your light shine, so that people will see the good you do and give glory to God.
