A ferocious fire swept through a row of metal container shops along Spintex Road near Marina Mall in the early hours of Saturday, February 7, 2026, destroying several businesses but narrowly avoiding a major catastrophe, following a coordinated response by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
According to a post shared on Facebook by the Service, the distress call was received at 12:01am, prompting the immediate mobilisation of three fire pumps from the Tema Motorway, Tema Metro and Tema Industrial Area Fire Stations.

The response, however, was affected by the unavailability of the Kasapreko Fire Station, the closest to the incident, due to a faulty fire engine.

Consequently, the Tema Motorway Fire Engine, led by Assistant Divisional Officer Grade I (ADO I) Derrick Sarkodie, was deployed as the base pump.
The crew arrived at the scene at 12:19am, by which time the fire had already reached an advanced stage and was spreading rapidly through the metal container structures.

Firefighters employed coordinated and tactical firefighting strategies under intense conditions to bring the blaze under control.

Their efforts succeeded in containing the fire at 1:56am, with complete extinguishment achieved at 4:32am. No casualties were recorded during the incident.
The fire completely destroyed seven metal container shops used for furniture production, tailoring and grocery trading, along with all their contents.

Despite the scale of the blaze, firefighters managed to prevent the flames from spreading to the nearby Marina Mall, averting what could have been extensive commercial losses.
In addition, a car garage housing more than 35 vehicles was successfully salvaged, alongside several adjoining shops and nearby residential buildings, underscoring the effectiveness and professionalism of the firefighting operation.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is currently under investigation by the relevant authorities.
