The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has concluded her three-day working visit to the Northern and North East Regions with a visit to the Gambaga Alleged Witches Camp in the East Mamprusi Municipality.
The visit, on Friday, August 7, 2026, formed part of efforts to assess the welfare of residents and engage traditional and local authorities on measures to improve their living conditions. Dr Lartey was accompanied by members of the Ministry’s Advisory Board and management staff.
The Minister paid courtesy calls on the Overlord of the Mamprugu Kingdom, Nayiri Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, and the Gabaraana, Alhaji Tahiru Tia.
She also engaged the Municipal Chief Executive for East Mamprusi, David Bariche Bukari, on collaboration to improve the welfare and protection of camp residents.
During an interaction with residents, the Minister heard concerns over the need for permanent shelter, access to clean water and other essential social services.

She assured them that the government would explore sustainable solutions, including improved social amenities and permanent shelter, while working with traditional authorities and other stakeholders to facilitate family reintegration where possible.

Dr Lartey said the government remained committed to ensuring that vulnerable persons lived in safety and dignity, stressing that no one should be left behind.
The visit concluded her tour, which also included monitoring the ongoing LEAP beneficiary enrolment exercise and engagements with traditional and local authorities across the two regions.
