The Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Rashid Pelpuo, has asserted that Ghana’s economic position on the continent has strengthened significantly under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.
According to Dr Pelpuo, Ghana has moved from the 10th richest country in Africa to the 8th within a year, with its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) now exceeding GH¢100 billion.
He described the development as evidence of renewed economic direction and stability.
Speaking in an interview with Citi FM on Sunday, February 22, 2026, the Minister credited decisive leadership and prudent economic management for the improvement.
He said the first year of the Mahama administration had delivered measurable progress.
“This government is a committed government. The president has shown that leadership can make a big difference. With this past year, Ghana can be different altogether. We were in 10th place among rich countries.
"After one year of administration, good governance and committed leadership, we shot up to the 8th position, with a GDP that is above GH¢100 billion,” he stated.
Dr Pelpuo added that the government remains determined to consolidate the gains made so far, noting that job creation and targeted labour policies will be central to sustaining growth and improving living standards across the country.
