Joy FM has selected some experts in the tourism, arts and culture for our March 15, 2025 edition of Showbiz A-Z.
This episode, as part of the Ghana Month celebration, will throw the spotlight on the Ga people as part of the annual Ghana Month celebration.
Themed 'The Journey of the Ga People: Their Role in Shaping Tourism and the Creative Economy', the programme will be broadcast live from the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra.
Hosted by Kwame Dadzie, the show has empaneled poet and Ga Cultural Activist Nii Kwardey Ntreh, Tourism Consultant/West Africa Regional Representative of Africa Tourism Partners Francis Doku, tour guide/Tourism Consultant Emmanuel Nii Ayi Solomon, and the Chief Executive Officer of Adansi Travels, Gideon Asare.
This durbar which will air from 2pm to 6pm on the day, encompasses the display of the rich Ga culture through music, dance and libation and other cultural activities. There will be a special performance by the Bloku African Dance Theatre.
The discussion will focus on principal Ga customs and traditions like funeral rites, naming ceremonies, chieftaincy, and marriage ceremonies. Showbiz A-Z will explore the history of the Ga people and its influence on tourism, arts, and culture. Key heritage sites and event spaces in Accra will also be highlighted during the conversation.
Joy FM, for the past four years, has been dedicated to promoting the culture, tourism and arts of various tribes across the country in March - the month earmarked for the celebration of Ghanaian heritage and products.
After a successful edition of the outdoor programme in Cape Coast in 2021, there was an encore in Kumasi where the team discovered Asanteman’s rich tourist sites and culture.
In 2023, the show was broadcast live from Mount Afadja, one of the highest mountains in Ghana located in the Afadjato South District and Hohoe Municipality.
The programme hosted Togbega Hometepkor V, the Paramount Chief of the Gbledi Traditional Area; Togbe Adabra IV, Mankrado of Gbledi-Gbogame and the Divisional Chief of Gbledi Tongor / actor; Alexander Kwame Nketia, Volta Regional Director of Ghana Tourism Authority, and Chief Moomen, poet, playwright and creative entrepreneur.
There was also a food bazaar and a mini durbar to showcase different types of food in the Volta Region. Other activities to feature at the event are drumming, dancing and pouring of libation.
Showbiz A-Z, is an award-winning magazine programme that tackles issues bordering on culture, creative arts and tourism.
Tagged the most authoritative entertainment talk show on Ghanaian radio, it airs on Joy 99.7FM every Saturday from 2pm to 6pm. It is hosted by arts and culture journalist Kwame Dadzie, produced by Philip Nai, and Anita Teye.
