The biggest match of the Ghana Premier League season between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko comes off this Sunday, December 10, with the Phobians hosting the Porcupine Warriors in Kumasi.
The game will be played in Kumasi due to the closure of the Accra Sports Stadium to clubs used for other activities.
The two teams go head-to-head on matchday 14 with each team eyeing the three points but the match means more than just securing the three points with bragging rights also at stake.
Matches like this usually cause banter between football fans and Sunday's clash won’t be an exception.
Kotoko and Hearts are seventh and eighth respectively on the Ghana Premier League table.
Hearts go into the game with just three wins from 13 games played representing a winning rate of 23% and seven draws as well as three loses. The Phobians have also been booted out of the MTN FA Cup. Following their loss in their last Premier League game against Aduana FC, Hearts will be looking to rewrite their wrongs with a win on Sunday.
Kotoko on the other side have won six games representing a win percentage of 46%, drawn 3 and lost 4. The Porcupine Warriors go into the game with much more confidence with three consecutive wins, the latest being the victory over Berekum Chelsea.
Heart of Oak will be banging their hopes on key players like Hamza Issah who have scored 5 goals in 9 games. The team will be hoping he finds his boot to help propel the team to victory.
Kotoko on the other side will rely on the in-form Steven Mukwala who has scored four goals in his last three games.
The Phobians have won three of the last 10 Super Clash fixtures while Kotoko claimed two victories with five ending in a draw.
Despite the internal wrangling at the Accra-based club, they will be looking forward to claiming the bragging rights as a big team in Ghana and to show that they are not only big on paper as claimed by former coach Martin Koopman.
