The Communication Minister, Samuel Nartey George, has revealed that the Cabinet has approved Ghana’s first National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy, a policy aimed at strengthening local AI expertise while promoting transparency, fairness, and accountability in the use of AI systems.
Speaking at the Data Protection Conference 2026 in Accra, held under the theme “Your Data, Your Identity: Building Trust in Ghana’s Digital Future,” the Minister disclosed that the strategy is set to be formally launched by President John Dramani Mahama in the coming weeks.
In addition, the government is preparing an Emerging Technologies Framework to provide structured oversight of AI applications, advanced analytics, digital assets, and other new digital platforms.
“The National AI Strategy was approved by Cabinet last week and will be launched in a few weeks by His Excellency.
"Work is progressing on our Emerging Technologies Framework, which will provide structured oversight for Artificial Intelligence systems, advanced analytics, digital assets and new digital platforms.
“The aim is not to slow innovation but to guide it responsibly so that progress remains aligned,” Samuel Nartey George explained.
The policy seeks to ensure that Ghana’s AI development aligns with global standards while safeguarding ethical and responsible use, positioning the country to harness emerging technologies for economic growth and digital transformation.
