Organised Labour has lamented about the current hardship its members and Ghanaians have to go through each passing day.

In an interview with JoyNews, the Deputy Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Joshua Ansah said life has become unbearable for many workers.

“We are not happy about the way things are going, we are not happy at all and Ghanaian workers are suffering. Look at where the living standard is at today. Comparing what you are taking and what others are also taking, I don’t think it is right,” he said.

This follows a call by public sector workers for a 60 per cent increase in the base pay on the Single Spine Salary Structure for 2023.

Meanwhile, a meeting between the government and organised labour to discuss the proposal has ended inconclusively.

The next meeting has been scheduled for Monday 21st November, 2022.

The Deputy Secretary General of the TUC charged government to heed their calls for salaries of public sector workers to be enhanced.

The Executive Secretary of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association (CLOGSAG), Isaac Bampoe Addo, explaining what transpired in the meeting, said government is yet to take a decision on their proposal.

For this reason, Mr Bampoe Addo said the meeting with government was adjourned to enable the employer come up with a “proper mandate” for the negotiations to proceed.

“As of now, no decision on the proposals that we gave has been given to us,… we hope that at the next adjourned date, something good could come out,” he said.

Also, the Deputy Employment and Labour Relations Minister, Bright Wereko Brobbey says government couldn’t reach any consensus with organized labour hence the decision to adjourn the meeting.

He was optimistic that the negotiations will come to an end in their next meeting.

“Once there is that spirit of negotiations, there is that willingness to negotiate, why should there be disturbances? We will make sure that by next week, it is finished and satisfactory to both parties,” he said.
