Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) battled a fierce blaze that ripped through a two-storey, eight-room building at Adjiringanor near Ability Square on Friday night, destroying seven rooms on the top floor and injuring two personnel.
The GNFS said the fire started around 9:30 pm, with the call received at 21:32 hours, and the first crew from the Legon Fire Station arriving at 22:03 hours.
Reinforcement teams from Madina, the National Headquarters, and Adenta Fire Stations joined the operation, supported by a private water tanker to ensure an adequate water supply throughout the response.
According to the Service, the fire was brought under control at 00:16 hours and completely extinguished by 01:08 hours.
A spokesperson told JoyNews that although seven rooms and their contents were lost, firefighters managed to salvage one room on the top floor, while all rooms on the ground floor and nearby buildings were protected from the flames.
Two firefighters sustained injuries during the operation—one suffered a stab wound to the left arm, while another was struck on the shoulder by a falling block. Both were treated and discharged at Unity Clinic in Madina.
“Our teams acted swiftly and professionally to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjoining properties,” the spokesperson noted, adding that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the blaze.
The GNFS continues to urge the public to maintain proper fire safety practices, especially during the dry season when fire risks are typically higher.
