The Ghana Stock Exchange achieved a milestone on Tuesday, with the GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) smashing through the 15,000-point barrier for the first time in history, closing at 15,185.49 after a breathtaking gain of 598.32 points.
Trading data for the 7,169th session, held on March 10, 2026, revealed a market in overdrive, with the GSE Financial Stocks Index (GSE-FSI) climbing 252.74 points to settle at 9,538.68.
Market capitalisation ballooned to an unprecedented GH¢277.97 billion, up from Monday's GH¢267.45 billion, as investors continued to pour into equities with seemingly insatiable appetite.
Total volume of shares traded for the session reached 2,503,371, with aggregate value hitting GH¢24,014,498.26—a significant increase from Monday's figures.
Standard Chartered leads banking charge
Standard Chartered Bank Ghana PLC (SCB) delivered a performance for the ages, surging by GH¢6.28 to close at GH¢69.14, extending its remarkable run and cementing its position as one of the year's best-performing stocks.
GCB Bank PLC (GCB) remained unchanged at GH¢52.00 despite heavy trading of 154,831 shares contributing GH¢8,052,212 to market value, while Access Bank (ACCESS) held steady at GH¢46.64.
GOIL and MTN Ghana power rally
Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL) emerged as a standout performer, jumping GH¢0.21 to close at GH¢6.60, with an impressive 756,136 shares traded—the second-highest volume of the session—contributing GH¢4,990,454.97 to total market value.
Scancom PLC (MTNGH) continued its ascent, adding GH¢0.39 to close at GH¢6.33. The telecommunications giant remained the most actively traded counter, with 1,187,562 shares changing hands and contributing GH¢7,509,411.87 to the total market value.
Insurance and banking stocks join the party
SIC Insurance Company PLC (SIC) rose by GH¢0.54 to close at GH¢5.98, while Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC (RBGH) gained GH¢0.29 to GH¢3.26. Ecobank Transnational Inc. (ETI) added GH¢0.17 to close at GH¢1.91.
Dannex Ayrton Starwin PLC (DASPHARMA) recorded a gain of GH¢0.03 to close at GH¢0.41, while Atlantic Lithium Ltd (ALLGH) remained unchanged at GH¢6.52 despite active trading.
Societe Generale buckles the trend
Societe Generale Ghana PLC (SOGEGH) emerged as the session's sole decliner, shedding GH¢0.02 to close at GH¢11.37.

Market summary
The GSE-CI has now gained an astonishing 73.15 per cent since the start of the year, while the financial stocks index has delivered a breathtaking 105.26 per cent return—more than doubling investor capital in just over two months.
Tuesday's session marked the continuation of a historic rally that has seen the benchmark index climb relentlessly since late February, with market watchers now eyeing the 16,000-point level as the next psychological barrier.
