The Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Makafui Kofi Woanyah, has reiterated the government's commitment to constructing the Keta Port, which was a major campaign promise in the 2016 electioneering.
He indicated that much progress has been made towards ensuring the facility is delivered, though the coronavirus pandemic delayed the process.
He said that a project of such nature would have taken decades to execute, but the government is moving at a faster pace to ensure work begins on the port in earnest.
“It has also been explained that the appointment of the CEO is to facilitate procurement and other processes leading to a contract and constructional works”, he said when addressing the media in Ho.
Mr. Woanyah indicated that an Executive Instrument has been issued to declare Keta as a port zone, while feasibility studies have been completed on the project.
He added that Parliament has approved budgetary allocation for the construction of an office complex for the Keta Port, and work would commence soon.
“So it is disingenuous for the MP for Keta, Hon Kwame Dzidzorli Agakpey to mobilise some journalists to the site recently and accused the government of non-commitment.
What is the moral right of the NDC when they never ever conceived the idea?”, he questioned.
