Government has dismissed calls for the closure of Junior and Senior High Schools after resuming for final year students to complete their phase of education after Covid-19 cases were recorded at Accra Girls SHS.
According to government, students and staff in some schools testing positive for the virus is not enough reason to shut down schools.
"Anywhere you test people, don't be surprised to get a positive case that is why we should never get into the track of saying that because one positive case was recorded, schools must shut down...otherwise the whole world must shut down," Deputy Health Minister, Bernard Okoe-Boye said on the AM show.
There have been calls for schools to be shut down weeks after government issued a directive for final year students to resume and complete the final phase of their education.
According to President Akufo-Addo, Covid-19 cannot hinder the progress of education, therefore, students must return to complete their education.
However, there have been agitations from the public, especially from parents and teacher associations for schools to close down for fear of contracting Covid, after some students and teachers tested positive for the virus in some schools.
But deputy Health Minister Bernard Okoe Boye says government cannot heed to such calls because the virus is everywhere "therefore we must find ways to mitigate the effects while life continues.
"The virus is in the world's population, it's in the Ghanaian population that is why all of us must take good care of ourselves so that the one who has it will recover without giving it to you and then the virus can be pushed down."
