The Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) says government’s infrastructural projects under the $1 million, 1 constituency initiative lacks transparency.
Presenting an interim report at a press briefing, Research Analyst, Gildfred Asiamah Boateng said that there was little or no information about the cost and stakeholders involved in the various projects being undertaken.
Mr Asiamah also established that some of the projects are wasting away due to their poor citing eithin the beneficiary constituency.
“Almost all the projects do not have information at their sites so you do not know the contractor or the consultant and you do not know the duration in which the project is supposed to be completed.
“And when some of these key details are lacking, it means people of the community cannot hold the stakeholders to account; you can’t question the contractor because you do not know them, you can’t question the development consultancy because you do not know them and all,” he stated.
But reacting to this, Chief Technical Advisor at the Monitoring and Evaluation Ministry, Andrew Assibey said the survey does not paint the true picture on the ground.
According to him, there has been a massive progress under the Akufo-Addo flagship initiative for every constituency.
“They stopped in February 2020 and we are in September so you should know that in between a lot could have taken place. So they may have to go back and see whether the observation they made earlier still pertains.
“This is because, per our assessment of the 1 Village, 1 Dam in February beneficiaries appreciated the effort of government.”
