The Foreign Affairs Ministry has advised Ghanaians intending to embark on Umrah to reconsider their travel plans in light of the evolving security situation in parts of the Middle East.
In a statement dated March 2, 2026, the Ministry recommended that prospective pilgrims who have not yet departed Ghana should temporarily suspend their journeys until stability is restored in the region.
Umrah is a voluntary Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca that may be undertaken at any time of the year, unlike the annual Hajj.
The Ministry underscored that safeguarding the lives and welfare of Ghanaian citizens abroad remains the government’s foremost concern.
For those already in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah, the Ministry urged them to remain composed, strictly observe directives issued by Saudi authorities, and stay in close contact with their travel agencies, the Ghana Embassy in Riyadh, and the Consulate-General in Jeddah.
It further indicated that officials are available to provide information and emergency consular support where necessary.
In Ghana, enquiries may be directed to +233 240 913 284 or +233 240 793 072. Ghanaians currently in Saudi Arabia can contact +966 59 776 2966 or +966 56 818 1974, or reach the Embassy via email at [riyadh@mfa.gov.gh](mailto:riyadh@mfa.gov.gh).
