Heart of Lions held Asante Kotoko to a goalless draw in the first game on their return to the Ghana Premier League (GPL).
Berekum Chelsea recorded the joint biggest win margin in the opening weekend of the 2023/24 GPL, beating Bibiani GoldStars 2-0.
Seven matches were played across the various venues, with Medeama and Dreams FC not involved because of African commitments.
Here’s a wrap of results from week one:
Real Tamale United 1-0 Hearts of Oak
Hearts of Oak kicked off the campaign with a defeat to Real Tamale United on Friday night at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.
The Phobians lost courtesy of a late Owusu Afriyie goal.
Great Olympics 0-0 Bofoakwa Tano
Great Olympics failed to get their season off to a winning start on Saturday as they were held to a goalless draw by returning Bofoakwa Tano.
Asante Kotoko 0-0 Heart of Lions
Asante Kotoko ended the weekend fixtures with a stalemate against the returning Heart of Lions at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The visitors would feel they should have gone back to Kpando with all three points after a goal was controversially denied for offside.
Berekum Chelsea 2-0 Bibiani GoldStars
The Bibires recorded the joint biggest win margin of day one of the Ghana Premier League following their two second-half goals against GoldStars.
Stephen Amankona scored both goals in the 74th and in stoppages to win the game at the Golden City Park.
Legon Cities 2-1 Karela United
The Royals came from a goal down to win at the El Wak Stadium against the Pride and Passion lads.
Karela took the lead through an Abdul Karim Ayeh goal in the first half but youngster Frank Antwi scored a second-half brace to win the game for the home side.
A minute of silence was observed for the fallen former Legon Cities goalkeeper, Sylvester Sackey.
Nsoatreman 2-0 Bechem United
Manaf Umar and Osei Bonsu scored in either half to give the hosts a comfortable victory over the Hunters.
Samartex 1-0 Aduana FC
