The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has issued an apology following public backlash over remarks suggesting that postings to northern Ghana could be perceived as punitive.
In a statement released by the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC), the Minister described the comments, which were captured in a widely circulated video, as a “genuine slip in communication” that did not reflect her views or official government policy.
“My attention has been drawn to a widely circulated video in which I made remarks suggesting that postings to the northern part of our beloved country could be considered as a form of punishment,” she stated.
“I wish to state, without reservation, that the comments captured in the video were a genuine slip in communication and do not reflect my considered views.”

Mrs Ocloo explained that the remarks were made in response to a media question concerning allegations that some technocrats involved in issuing development permits without due process are often reassigned to nearby districts, allowing such practices to persist.
She said that in attempting to illustrate how some public officials are posted to areas far from their usual places of residence, her choice of words created an unintended impression.
“Regrettably, my choice of words created the unintended impression that such postings were punitive,” she said.
The Minister offered what she described as an unreserved apology to Ghanaians, particularly residents of the northern regions.
“I sincerely acknowledge the concerns that this has generated and offer my unreserved apology to all Ghanaians, especially my brothers and sisters in the northern regions, for any misunderstanding, offence, or discomfort caused,” she stated.
She reaffirmed her commitment to fairness, professionalism and due process in public administration, assuring the public that all staff postings and transfers would continue to be carried out in accordance with established rules and regulations.
Mrs Ocloo further urged the public to consider the matter clarified, reiterating her dedication to serving the Greater Accra Region with integrity, accountability and fairness.
