The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has inspected work done on phase one of the Heal Komfo Anokye Project, which has been completed to accommodate patients.
Over four million of the targeted 10million dollars has been raised in six months for the project execution, to give a facelift to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Managers say a $1 million maintenance fund has been set up to ensure the longevity and upkeep of sustainable installations under the project, including solar-heated showers for patient’ comfort.
Spearheaded by the Asantehene, the debilitating state of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) is now seeing some of its wards in advanced stages of refurbishment under the Heal KATH intervention.
Phase one of the Project termed the demonstration floors, has seen significant renovations, including the completion of works on the leaking roofs and exterior overhauling of dilapidated offices, wards and compartments.

Architect and Project Manager, Kojo Darko Asante, highlighted the ambitious sustainable initiatives for energy efficiency and reduced operational cost, during a tour of the completed phase 1 of the HEAL KATH project by the Asantehene.
Upon completion of the four blocks, the hospital will transition to solar power, reducing reliance on the national grid.

“We are very conscious about sustainability, and the materials incorporated into the work we have done. The lighting system we use will only be changed after 5 years, same thing with the equipment installed in the compartments. Little renovations may be needed even after fifty years.
“When we are done with the four blocks, we will install solar panels on the roofs of the facility and that will supply electricity, so we don't depend so much on the national grid. We have also made stock acquisitions of all the materials to keep everything new and fresh. And we have also set up a maintenance fund of 1 million dollars to be available for the hospital to maintain the work we have done,” he said.
During the tour, the Asantehene assessed the work done so far, as well as the outstanding work to be done.

The Chairman of the Heal KATH Project, Sammy Adu Boakye says the completion of phase one is preparing patients to be evacuated to the new one to create room for phase two of the project to begin.
“We are almost set to evacuate the make-shift ward into the newly-renovated block to make way for the phase 2 work to start. This time around we are optimistic to move with the speed of light because all the materials we need are already here,” he stated.
He appealed to the public to continue supporting the project, indicating the evidence of completed works makes their support worthy.
“A lot of people have donated. Raising 4 million dollars in six months is something worth commending. And so we are appreciative of the support from individuals and entities. However, what is left is more, and so we use this opportunity to appeal more especially to the public who were skeptical about helping. Now we have all seen the progress we have made,” he noted.
Some well-wishers and contributors to the project expressed their satisfaction with the progress made on the project.

“We are really impressed with the work we have seen. Nana [Asantehene] has committed to this, and what we are seeing is the fruit of his conviction,” said James Osei Brown, Managing Director of Joshob Construction.
“As celebrities, I speak on behalf of the colleagues when I say we are ever ready to avail ourselves for any promotion of a public course,” actor, Kwadwo Nkansah ‘Lilwin’ said.
“Maintenance is a very important thing. I will urge executives and handlers of the facility that we need to keep this treasure,” said Kumawood actor, Mercy Aseidu.
