As the brouhaha surrounding whether or not GETFund is permitted to grant scholarships thickens, more people are sharing their experiences with the Secretariat that continues to receive backlash for giving scholarships to MPs and government appointees.
From Hajia Ramana Shareef, a Ghanaian lady who was captured by the audit of the Ghana Education Trust fund (GETFund) to have received a total of £22,000 for her United Kingdom education in 2013, when she did not actually receive a dime, to ordinary Ghanaians who applied for the scholarship and were flatly refused, the list seems endless.
Latest to share her horror story is Dr Fathia Kareem, a medical doctor who graduated from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Narrating her ordeal with the scheme to 'Newsfile' host Samson Lardy Ayenini, Dr Kareem, who swept 12 out of 15 awards from KNUST in 2016, was rejected, raising the question of the ‘brilliant but needy’ criteria stated in the GETFund Act 2000 (Act 581).
According to her, after her rejection in 2016, she applied again because she was forced to defer the course. But the secretariat denied her the scholarship a second time.
