An aspirant in the New Patriotic Party parliamentary primaries at Nhyiaeso, Kumasi, Kennedy Kankam has dismissed claims of suing the party.
The denial follows accusations that Mr Kankam has sent the party to court over certain issues.
In an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story on Thursday, January 18, he said such statements are false.
“Some perception has been created in the public that Kennedy Kwasi Kankam has taken the New Patriotic Party to court. I want to correct that impression that I have not been to court, neither did my campaign team or any of my supporters,” he clarified.
According to him, he believes in the structures of the party and the grievances procedure of the party, adding that “We are looking forward that the party will come out with a verdict that will be in the biggest interest of the party.”
Meanwhile, some 17 parliamentary party aspirants of the party have been disqualified from contesting the parliamentary primaries.
According to the party, 326 candidates qualified to contest the January 27 primaries, three aspirants stepped down from the race, 29 individuals went unopposed, while one aspirant's application is under court processes.
The NPP currently has 137 seats in Parliament.
The decision to disqualify some aspirants was affirmed at a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Wednesday to finalise modalities for the election.
At the meeting, the NEC considered the reports of the Party's National Parliamentary Vetting Committees and the National Parliamentary Appeals Committee, a statement issued and signed by Mr Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary, NPP, said.
