National Democratic Congress General Secretary Aspirant, Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, says he is far more experienced in the management of the office of the General Secretary of the NDC than any of his contenders.
According to him, his service to the party in the past four years, especially throughout the turbulence that encompassed the 2020 elections and beyond has equipped him with the necessary skills and expertise to appropriately man the position of general secretary.
He was speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express ahead of the NDC’s National Delegates’ Conference to be held in December.
“The most important thing is that I think I stand taller above them in everything. When you talk about political party management experience in the office of the general secretary, I stand very tall. And I say for example that when you have a mason go to learn his trade in masonry he graduates as a mason, he doesn’t graduate as a hairdresser.
“When you have somebody go and learn carpentry he graduates as a carpenter, he doesn’t become a seamstress. I have learnt this job, I have sacrificed myself to the service of the party in the last eight years when some of our colleagues were in government. I have resigned from government to come and serve the party as a volunteer without pay, without salary,” he said.
He noted that while he served in the capacity of Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, his contenders were in government, thus they lack the needed rudiments on how to work the office of the General Secretary.
“So I have resigned to come and serve the party, sacrificed everything that I have learnt, my abilities, my intellectual abilities, everything to the party, and in that process I have learnt so much that my senior comrades have not learnt in the office of the general secretary.
“And for God’s sake we’re looking for general secretary not a minister, not a deputy minister, so experiences of deputy minister and I say verily is completely different from party management. Party management is a whole trade on its own.
“It’s true some of them have served in the past, my senior comrade Elvis had been Deputy General Secretary for two years and we won power and he went into government but I have served four years, full term in this contemporary times, I understand the contemporary nuances of the party office or of the office of the general secretary than all of them. I stand very tall,” he said.
