Ghanaian forward Mohammed Fuseini has revealed felt emotional after netting his first-ever European goal last week.
The Royale Union Saint-Gilloise man scored in his side's crucial 1-0 victory against FC Twente in the UEFA Europa League.
The win was Saint-Gilloise's first in the league phase of the Europa League portion of the tournament, propelling them into playoff contention and considerably boosting their confidence as they strive for more success.
Before matchday five, the Belgian outfit had a difficult start to the Europa League, with two draws and two defeats. Fuseini's absence was felt painfully during this era, given that he missed the competition's opening two matches owing to a red card in the qualifiers.
The three points away at FC Twente provided relief to Saint-Gilloise, who sorely needed a win to get their European campaign back on track.
"I was really excited and happy with the team to get our first win in the Europa League. This was an important game for us and you could see at the end the excitement on everyone's faces,” Fuseini revealed in an exclusive interview with Flashscore.
"I felt so emotional when I saw the ball going into the net. At the end I was also a bit disappointed because I felt I could have scored more goals."
After the recent performance against FC Twente, he believes that his side has what it takes to challenge any team they face in the league phase.
"From the performance of yesterday, I think we have what it takes to beat any of the teams we have to face in the league phase of the Europa League."
Saint-Gilloise face Nice in their next European game at home on December 12.
