Aspiring flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Dr Kwabena Duffuor says the party cannot rely only on dues and donations to thrive.
According to him, there are other means such as investing in shares, a move that has been tried and tested by political parties in other jurisdictions.
The former Finance Minister says if he is elected to lead the NDC, he will turn the party into a well-managed party that can raise revenues and be self-sufficient.
He made this comment on Thursday during his tour of the Bono and Ahafo regions.
“Go to South Korea, political parties have huge businesses. I’m proposing that we build our party in such a way that we’ll have investments to take care of our needs. We can’t rely on dues. You can’t use dues to build a party,” he said.
Dr Duffour has already expressed his commitment to empowering the grassroots with his Ahotor Project.
The Project includes support expected to be extended to all the 276 constituency executives of the party in phases.
It is a business model that sought to improve and enhance the chances of the grassroots to have sustainable and more predictable sources of income that would be used for the day-to-day management of the party at the constituency level.
