Although some music fans are worried that Kofi Kinaata has not won the Artiste of the Year award before in the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, the highlife musician is hopeful to win the spot in future.
During an interview on Prime Morning on Joy Prime, he told Roselyn Felli that he has received pressure from his fans but he believes the award will come to him at the opportune time.
"I heard some of my fans talk about it but there is time for everybody. When the right time comes, it will happen," he said.
Asked if he had not won the slot over the years because it was not his time he replied: “That is not the target. I just want to serve the people, I just want to give them songs that they can relate to. I just want to give them songs for every occasion, situation and condition."
He stated his songs ‘Effiakuma Love’ and ‘Effiakuma Broken Heart’ as examples of different emotions the two singles could make you feel.
“When you’re in love you listen to 'Effiakuma Love'. When you’re brokenhearted too you listen to Effiakuma Broken Heart,” he said.
In 2020, Kofi was nominated in the Artiste of the Year category of the Ghana Music Awards for the first time, alongside Kuami Eugene, Diana Hamilton, Medikal, Sarkodie, and Kofi Kinaata. They lost the prize to Kuami Eugene.
This year, Kofi Kinaata has earned nominations in the Best Reggae Song of the Year (with 'Effiakuma Love'), Best Highlife Song of the Year (with Overthinking) and Best Highlife Artiste of the Year.
In the meantime, he is out with a new song about disappointment in relationships, 'Effiakuma Broken Heart'.
