Renowned Ghanaian fashion entrepreneur, Richard Owusu Darko, popularly known as ‘Legend Bespoke,’ has expressed a sentiment shared by many in the business world, the insignificance of awards.
According to the fashion designer, while awards are intended to recognise and support efforts, he has no interest in them.
He made these comments on Joy Learning TV’s career and entrepreneurship programme, ‘The Career Trail.’
“For me, I’m not interested in awards. Because at the end of the day, award without money, it doesn’t work for me. Some people are very much interested in awards. I have haven’t been to any award programme before,” he stated.

Speaking with the host, Irene Adubea Aning, he affirmed that he has received numerous emails from various award organiesrs requesting to nominate him, but he doesn’t reply to them.
“They do send me mails. As I am speaking to you now, I have about three different DMs and mails; but I don’t even reply. I’m not interested’, he said.
Legend Bespoke added that people who do business with him value his efforts and often refer him to other clients. Therefore, he doesn’t need an award to be appreciated or recommended.
He also disclosed that many award organisers have numerous requirements, such as payment in advance of receiving the award.
"The reason why I am saying that is, these awards schemes and the kind of mails they send, and the kind of things they request you to do; I ask myself, is it really an award? I don’t think I have to pay for something to get an award," he explained.
Nonetheless, he clarified that there are legitimate award programmes, noting that he has friends who organises such events.
However, despite the existence of these legitimate award events, Legend Bespoke reiterated that he is not interested in awards.
