The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) has commended Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson on his appointment and swearing-in as the Minister for Finance, and Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare on her assumption of office as the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry.

In a statement signed by its Executive Secretary, Samson Asaki Awingobit, it expressed confidence in the competence and zeal of Dr. Forson and Mrs Ofosu-Adjare to drive Ghana’s trade and maritime industry to greater heights.

Dr. Forson’s extensive experience in fiscal policy and economic management, coupled with Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare’s dedication to empowering businesses, particularly women-led enterprises, it said, position them as exemplary leaders for their respective ministries.

“The IEAG is fully prepared to collaborate with both ministers to achieve their goals and targets for the trade and maritime sectors. We believe that through effective partnership, we can enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of Ghana’s import and export landscape”, it pointed out.

It explained that that as a body advocating for the betterment of traders in the country, it want the ministers to address the persistent challenges that importers and exporters faced during the previous administration, highlighting, issues such as bureaucratic bottlenecks, high tariffs, and infrastructural deficits that have long hindered the progress of its members.

“We trust that under the leadership of Dr. Forson and Mrs Ofosu-Adjare, these concerns will be prioritised and effectively resolved”, the statement alluded.

“In particular, we commend Mrs Ofosu-Adjare’s commitment to empowering women-led businesses as a key strategy to improve livelihoods and spur economic growth. Her emphasis on gender equality and the proposed mentorship programs for young women entrepreneurs align with our vision of an inclusive and thriving trade environment”, it added.

It concluded that the IEAG remains steadfast in its mission to support and advocate for the interests of Ghanaian traders.

It therefore looks forward to a fruitful collaboration with the new ministers to foster a conducive environment for trade and industry, ultimately contributing to the nation’s economic prosperity.
