Abdul Karim Zito's month-long experience as interim coach of Asante Kotoko has gone according to plan.
In four games, Zito has superintended over three wins; 1-0 over Aduana Stars, 4-1 over Dreams F.C., 1-0 over Berekum Chelsea, and a goalless draw with Accra Hearts of Oak.
The 1-0 win over Berekum Chelsea in the semi-final of the MTN FA Cup ensured that Kotoko returned to the final of the competition for the first time in eight years.
In the league, Kotoko are within three points of league leaders Nations F.C. with three games remaining.
Reflecting on a fruitful first month in charge, Karim Zito said the performances are a direct product of the noticeable improvements.
''I have seen a lot of improvements in them. They give me a listening ear so anytime I talk to them, they listen. (If I say to one of them, this is) how I want you to do things for them, they do it,'' he said.
Zito, who won five league titles, two FA Cups, and the CAF Champions League in nine years as a Kotoko player, also disclosed a unique bond with his players.
''And you know, they are grown-ups, some with wives and children, so that is where the (man) management comes in. You do not always have to shout. Even if I am shouting, it is because you did this or that. That does not mean I do not like you, but I am shouting to the thing you did, not you.''
''And seriously, they enjoy training with me. When you come to the training grounds, we joke as if I am not even the coach. I am their father but we joke a lot and I advise them.''
Kotoko will take on Gold Stars on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium, before hosting Medeama S.C at the same venue on Friday, 30th May before ending the season at Vision F.C. on 8th June, 2025.
