Assisting Editor at Myjoyonline.com Abubakar Ibrahim has won the first runner up (print and online) category award at the OFAB Ghana Media Awards ceremony in Accra.
Mr. Ibrahim was awarded for his works in reporting on the role of technology in agricultural production.

Organised by the Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology (OFAB) Ghana in collaboration with Kenyan based NGO, African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF) and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Ghana, the awards seek to recognise journalists for reporting on the role of biotechnology in food production.
Mr. Ibrahim’s story on how technology can play a role in helping to reduce the use of chemicals in agricultural production won him the award.
Daily Graphic’s Ama Amankwah Baafi won the first prize in print and online category whilst Salifu Wononou of Radio Waa won the best radio report category.
Mr. Ibrahim expressed gratitude for the award, explaining he is excited his story is helping better educate the public on how technology can help revolutionise agriculture in the country and make farmers better off.
CSIR Director-General Prof. Victor Kwame Agyemang called for more support for journalists so they are motivated to work hard to make changes in society.
Vice President of the Ghana Journalists Association Linda Asante expressed concern about how beauty pageant shows always get more sponsorships, prize money and goodies than those held for journalism. This she believes is out of place.
She also urged scientists to open up to journalists about their researches to improve science communication.
