The Avakpe Protective Mountains is located at Mafi Avakpedome, in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region.
It is a family of mountains that won wars for the Tongus in the pre-colonial era – and a host of other unnamed rocky mountains forming it.

“The Mountain initially is used as a sacred area, a fetish ground. In the olden days, our great grandfathers used the place as a war ground. So literally the name Avakpe means ‘War Stone’.
After defeating their enemies, the people of Avakpedome gather there to celebrate and also drown their sorrows.

The view from the mountain is a sight to die for, no wonder many musicians choose it as a setting to film music videos.
In this Joy Prime’s latest documentary, Emmanuel Dzivenu will peel layers of the breathtaking site of the Avakpe Protective Mountains to you.

The story will be told through Martin Gozah, a retired educationist, family head, and one of Avakpedome's opinion leaders.
It airs on Thursday, January 12 at 5:30 pm on Joy Prime TV.
