JoyNews journalist Kwetey Nartey has been selected as one of seven journalists worldwide for the 2026 Stigler Centre Journalists in Residence (JIR) Fellowship.
Launched in March 2017, the Stigler Centre’s Journalists in Residence programme provides a transformative learning experience for print and broadcast journalists from around the world.
The initiative aims to shape the next generation of global journalism leaders.
The fellowship offers participants exclusive access to leading experts in economics, finance and public policy.
Each year, hundreds of journalists apply for the programme. This year marks the first time a Ghanaian journalist has been selected to participate in the fellowship.
The programme is hosted at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. The University of Chicago is ranked among the top 10 universities in the United States and among the top 20 worldwide.
Through the programme, selected journalists will strengthen their skills in investigating complex financial crimes, including corruption, money laundering and tax evasion.
The other six journalists selected for the 2026 fellowship represent media organisations from across the globe.
Hamza Azhar Salam is a Pakistani investigative journalist and the founder of The Pakistan Daily. His investigations into corruption involving Bahria Town have drawn support from United Nations Special Rapporteurs and international press freedom organisations.
His reporting has appeared in BBC Urdu, Sky News, France 24 and Haaretz.
He holds a master’s degree in Interactive Journalism from City, University of London, and has also reported extensively on Pakistan’s relations with Azerbaijan and Israel, as well as on the impact of artificial intelligence on journalism.
Lia Barrios is Paraguay’s first data journalist and co-founder of Paraguay Data, the country’s first media outlet focused on data journalism.
Over a 14-year career, she has worked on transnational investigative projects with the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) and Connectas. Her reporting has led to institutional audits and criminal charges against public officials.
Sewell Chan is an American journalist currently serving as a senior fellow at the USC Annenberg Centre on Communication Leadership and Policy and a visiting fellow at Harvard University’s Edmond and Lily Safra Centre for Ethics.
Until 2024, he served as editor-in-chief of the nonprofit Texas Tribune, where he led award-winning coverage of state government and public policy. He previously held senior editorial roles at the Los Angeles Times and The New York Times.
Stevan Dojčinović is the founder of the Serbian investigative portal KRIK (Crime and Corruption Reporting Network) and the Balkan editor for the OCCRP network. He specialises in reporting on organised crime and is the author of the book Saric, which investigates the operations of a notorious Balkan drug lord.
Sohei Ide is a journalist with Japan’s Kyodo News and has more than 25 years of experience reporting on macroeconomics, financial regulation and fiscal and monetary policy. His latest book, Talking to the World’s Great Minds About What Comes After Capitalism (2024), explores progressive ideas for reshaping the global socio-economic system.
Aude Kersulec is a French journalist who specialises in international economic and financial news. A graduate of ESSEC Business School, she trained in economic analysis, financial markets and monetary policy.
Before entering journalism, she worked in the banking sector in Paris and Geneva. She is currently a journalist and news anchor at France 24.
Kwetey Nartey is a multiple award-winning Ghanaian investigative journalist whose work focuses on exposing wrongdoing, injustice and demanding accountability from public officials within Ghana’s democratic governance system.
