Karpowership Ghana Company limited was bestowed with the excellence in Power Generation award at the 2019 Ghana Energy awards.
The award was in recognition of Karpowership’s reliable consistency in the delivery of power in the year.
Commenting on the award the Corporate Communications Specialist of Karpowership Ghana, Sandra Amarquaye, said the award reinforces the integral importance of Karpowership in the Energy Sector.
“We are one of the most reliable and efficient baseload Power Plant in Ghana. This is because our state-of-the-art technology coupled with our seamless operational dynamics which enable us to generate reliable and sustainable power to the National Grid throughout the year,” she said.
She added that the company has been able to successfully relocate its 470MW Karadeniz Powership Osman Khan to the Sekondi Naval Base in the Western Region.
“Our Powership has the capacity to operate on dual fuel on both Heavy fuel Oil and Natural Gas. The purpose of relocating the Powership is to utilise the country’s natural gas resources from the Western region.
Today the Powership successfully runs on Natural Gas. It’s a delight to know our efforts in the industry are continually being recognized’
Last year, the company was adjudged the strategic deal of the year as the relocation of the Powership not only contributed to the holistic efficiency of the sector as a whole but also shown save the country millions of dollars both upstream and downstream.
Some awards the company has won in the past year also include ‘Best Independent Power Plant In Ghana’ and ‘Best Independent Power Producer in West Africa.’
Karpowership was one of the immediate solutions of government to resolve the power crisis which hit the country in 2015.
The company also embarks on various social projects with a focus on education, environment and social support in the bid to give back to the communities within which it operates.
