The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has issued a warning to commercial drivers in the metropolis against charging unapproved transport fares.
According to a statement released on Monday, July 28, 2025, by the Public Relations Unit of KMA, some drivers have been charging fares without approval from the Tripartite Committee, comprising the Ministry of Transport, Transport Unions’ representatives (GPRTU and GRTCC), and Regulatory and Consumer Advocates.
The KMA emphasizes that charging unapproved fares is unlawful in the metropolis.

The statement cautioned that commercial drivers found violating this directive will face severe consequences, including impounding their vehicles and prosecution.
Metro Chief Executive, Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, has directed the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service and the Metro Guards to monitor major roads and arrest drivers who disobey this directive.
The KMA appeals to commercial drivers and the general public to cooperate in restoring order and sanity on Kumasi’s roads.
