The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology College of Health Sciences is seeking to raise GH₵150 million with the newly created endowment fund within five years.
The endowment fund will promote the quality training of health professionals at the college, undertake research in the area of health, especially concerning local diseases, and provide scholarships at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels to stem the canker of brain drain.
Speaking to the media at a fundraising soiree for the College of Health Sciences endowment fund, former Dean of the School of Medical Sciences and chairman of the fund, Professor Daniel Ansong noted that the fund will help expand resources for the College of Health Sciences to take more students who will trained for the next generation.
“We see more than 40,000 applications for the six faculties of the College of Health Sciences and within it, a small percentage is admitted for the programmes that we run, the medical training, dentistry training, pharmaceutical training and others. We believe that if we are able to expand our resources, we will be able to take more students and they apply to the university”
Professor Ansong also called on stakeholders holders to come out and contribute to the fund.
"We need to come out of this, that is why we are calling on all stakeholders, corporate Ghana, alumni, and parents to support this Endowment Fund established by the college,"
The CHS consists of seven schools or faculties, including the KNUST School of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, School of Veterinary Medicine, School of Public Health, School of Nursing and Midwifery, and School of Dentistry.
